1. Download and Extract

Download the CloudCutter Trial archive and extract all files to a local folder.

IMPORTANT:
- Do not run the application directly from the ZIP archive.
- Keep the original folder structure unchanged.

Example installation folder:

C:\CloudCutter_Trial\

2. Folder Structure

The Trial package contains:

- Root folder
- Subfolder "DLL" with the application executable and required runtime files
- Subfolder "licenses" with third-party license notices
- Optional subfolders "INPUT" and "OUTPUT"
- Launcher file:

CLOUDCUTTER_V1_1-beta.bat

IMPORTANT:
- Do not move or rename files inside the "DLL" folder.
- Do not start the application by moving the EXE to another folder.
- Always keep e57_cutter_trial.exe together with the supplied DLL files.

3. How to Start CloudCutter Trial

To start the application:

- Double-click:

CLOUDCUTTER_V1_1-beta.bat

The launcher automatically opens the correct runtime folder and starts:

e57_cutter_trial.exe

If your corporate Windows policy blocks BAT files, you may open the "DLL" folder and start e57_cutter_trial.exe directly, provided that all supplied DLL files remain in the same folder.

4. Online Trial Activation

CloudCutter Trial uses online activation.

On the first launch for a Windows user:

1. Enter the company or organization name.
2. Enter a corporate or university email address.
3. Click "Send verification code".
4. Enter the verification code received by email.
5. Confirm activation.

The Trial period is shared by the organization and supports up to 10 fixed devices.

The Trial period does not restart when another device is added.

5. Company Name Resolution

CloudCutter identifies the organization primarily by the verified email domain.

If the domain is already registered, CloudCutter may replace the entered company name with the existing canonical organization name.

Example:

Entered company:
FLAMECAD

Verified email domain:
parlym.com

Registered company:
PARLYM

Before activation, CloudCutter displays a confirmation window.

- Select "OK" to activate the device under the registered organization.
- Select "Cancel" to stop activation.

No device seat is assigned when activation is cancelled.

6. Accepted Email Addresses

Accepted:

- Corporate email domains
- University email domains
- Student university email domains

Restricted or rejected:

- Public email services such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and similar domains
- Disposable or temporary email services

University and student accounts are allowed and may be monitored statistically to prevent abuse.

7. Internet Connection Requirements

An Internet connection is required:

- during initial email verification and activation;
- during application startup validation;
- before every export operation.

A short startup tolerance may be used only for temporary transport failures after a recent successful online validation.

This tolerance never authorizes an export.

Server rejection, blocked access, expired Trial status, or revoked device status cannot use the network tolerance.

8. Saved Trial Session

After successful activation, CloudCutter stores an encrypted device session in the current Windows user profile.

The session is protected by Windows DPAPI and is not stored in the portable application folder.

Typical location:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\VoxelStudio\CloudCutter\trial_license_v2.dat

Normally, the user does not need to manage this file manually.

Important:

- Each Windows user profile has its own protected cache.
- Replacing or updating the EXE does not reset the cache.
- Copying the cache to another computer or another Windows user does not work.
- Deleting the cache causes the application to request activation again.
- The server remains the authoritative source for Trial, device, and seat status.

9. No Local License File Is Required

The Trial version does not use the old machine-bound offline license workflow.

The following files are not required:

cloudcutter.lic
request.txt

Do not create, copy, or request these files for CloudCutter Trial.

If such files are present from an older package, remove them before using or distributing the Trial package.

10. First Launch and Windows Security Warnings

On the first launch, Windows may display a warning such as:

"This app is from an unknown publisher"

If this happens:

1. Click "More info".
2. Click "Run anyway".

Optional:

- Right-click CLOUDCUTTER_V1_1-beta.bat.
- Select "Properties".
- Enable "Unblock" if this option is available.
- Click "Apply".

Windows or antivirus software may take several seconds to inspect a newly downloaded application before it opens.

A short delay during the first launch or before the file-selection window appears can be caused by Windows security verification.

11. Antivirus Notice

Some antivirus products may flag new or low-distribution applications.

If this happens:

- Confirm that the archive was downloaded from the official VoxelStudio source.
- Check the published SHA-256 checksum.
- Restore the file from quarantine only when the source and checksum are trusted.
- Add an exception only when permitted by your company security policy.

Do not disable antivirus protection globally.

12. Supported Input and Output Formats

CloudCutter supports the following point-cloud formats:

Input:

- E57
- XYZ ASCII
- LAS

Output:

- E57
- XYZ ASCII
- LAS

CloudCutter can therefore also be used as a point-cloud format converter between supported formats.

13. Recommended Workflow

1. Start CloudCutter from CLOUDCUTTER_V1_1-beta.bat.
2. Complete Trial activation if requested.
3. Select the input point-cloud file.
4. Select the output folder.
5. Read the file metadata.
6. Build Quick or Exact preview.
7. Prepare top-view and/or vertical selections.
8. Save the required selections.
9. Select the output format and export mode.
10. Start export.

Export is prepared from saved selections.

Temporary top-view buffer selections are intended only for interactive preparation and review before saving.

14. Export Modes

Available export modes include:

- Single combined output file
- Several output files by saved selections

Depending on the selected input and output formats, preservation of RGB, scanner structure, photographs, classifications, and other metadata may vary.

Some non-Cartesian E57 files may require XYZ-only split export for reliable downstream compatibility.

15. Export Authorization

Before every export, CloudCutter requests a short-lived one-time authorization from the licensing server.

This process is automatic and normally invisible to the user.

The authorization is:

- bound to the current device;
- bound to the exact export job;
- valid only for a short time;
- single-use;
- protected locally by Windows DPAPI.

Direct execution of an export job without authorization is blocked.

16. Input and Output Paths

CloudCutter may remember the last selected input file and output folder in:

DLL\settings.ini

A clean Trial package should contain empty values:

[Paths]
InputE57Path=
OutputFolder=

The application will update this file during normal use.

Do not distribute a package containing personal, internal, or test file paths.

17. Troubleshooting

If the application does not start:

- Confirm that the archive was fully extracted.
- Confirm that e57_cutter_trial.exe is located in the same folder as pdalcpp.dll and the other supplied runtime DLL files.
- Confirm that the folder structure was not changed.
- Check antivirus quarantine.
- Check whether company policy blocks BAT files.

If Windows reports a missing DLL:

- Do not copy only the EXE.
- Restore the complete "DLL" folder from the Trial archive.

If the registration window does not appear:

- The current Windows user may already have a valid encrypted Trial session.
- Check the startup console for:

source=dpapi-cache+online-status

If registration is expected for testing, use a different Windows user profile or remove the local Trial cache only after making a backup.

If a public email address is rejected:

- Use a corporate or university email address.

If the company name changes after email verification:

- The verified domain is already registered under a canonical organization name.
- Review the confirmation window and select "OK" or "Cancel".

If activation is cancelled:

- CloudCutter does not start.
- No new device seat is assigned.
- No new Trial cache is saved.

If export is blocked:

- Confirm that the computer is online.
- Confirm that the Trial is active.
- Confirm that the device has not been blocked or revoked.
- Retry from the main CloudCutter interface.

If the file-selection dialog opens slowly:

- Wait for Windows security verification to finish.
- Confirm that DLL\settings.ini does not contain an unavailable network drive or an old removable-drive path.

18. Support Information

When reporting a problem, include:

- CloudCutter version
- Windows version
- Company name shown by the application
- Seat number
- Full console log
- Input format
- Output format
- Approximate file size
- Exact error code and message

Do not publish or send private files, email verification codes, device-session cache files, or internal company data unless specifically requested through a trusted support channel.
